The FSU Food for Thought Pantry provides students in need with free food and essentials. Due to staffing limitations, the Pantry faces challenges marketing its services and raising awareness across campus.

Sarah is a junior studying Geography with a minor in Environment and Society, and her sustainability journey started when she volunteered in the Atlantic Rainforest, Brazil for two months. Working in rainforest restoration helped her realize that sustainability is a lifelong practice that she wants to live by.

Alex is a sophomore from Miami, Florida, pursuing digital media and production at FSU. During his second semester as a Sustainability Fellow, Alex continued his work with the Sustainable Campus team.

Students utilized online resources to research attitudes toward a wide range of sustainability topics in Leon County and beyond.

Despite the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, students in Dr. Tingting Zhao’s Sustainable Society course were able to conduct primary research across a range of sustainability topics.

Dr. Zhao, Associate Professor in the Department of Geography, partnered with the Leon County Office of Sustainability and challenged students to utilize online survey tools to investigate community attitudes towards sustainability.

The current climate crisis may make us feel overwhelmed and find it difficult to find optimism. If you find yourself wrestling with these emotions and negative thoughts about the environment, know you are not alone. In fact, anxiety induced by thoughts of environmental defeat has its own term: eco-anxiety. Eco-anxiety has been defined as “chronic discomfort brought on by an overwhelming fear of environmental disaster,” and is a prevalent issue for many people, not just those who work in  the environmental field.
